The Wexamour Archaeological Society, the town’s own chapter and a sister to the one that has met at the University since its founding, has named its first president, and it is a loved member of the community: Edna Thatch. At the members’ second gathering this rest-day, in the Undercroft beneath the old Museum, the question was put to a show of hands and settled in about the time it takes to say the name. Anyone who has lived in Vaelthir for a while knows her. She is a smile behind the desk who can find whatever you have lost, a misfiled deed, a great-aunt’s given name, a book you had forgotten you ever borrowed. “I have spent my whole life among these shelves, and I could not be more delighted to step out from behind them,” she told the gathering, once the applause let her speak. “I want to help this good company uncover the secrets of the world, and I will gladly challenge anyone who would rather let things stay buried.” The chapter, she said, is open to anyone, dues or no dues, student or not.
