We know this is a hard time for our community, so in order to lighten the load we decided to create a different kind of notice. The small and ordinary kind that never makes a headline. So before anyone tells you the strip has nothing left to be glad about, here is the proof otherwise.

Ten good things happened here this week. Every one of them is true, and given to us by members of our own community.

  1. A satchel of coin found on the market road, $50 in all, was handed back whole to the Harlow family. They told us it had been stolen from them, and that it was every bit of savings they had left in the world.
  2. Denner Byre pulled three good steaks out of his cold store before the rest of it turned this week. He said it will feed the four of them to week’s end.
  3. When the Attlebury plot started to turn, eleven neighbours showed up unasked and cut what little could still be saved in a single morning.
  4. With all the extra Bureau patrols on the south road lately, an officer was near enough to fetch the Coombes’ half-grown manticore down out of the elm she had climbed and could not get herself out of. She is home, and we are grateful for the help.
  5. The last of the flood debris was finally hauled off the low fields this week, by volunteers who have been working tirelessly for months.
  6. Luna served the 10,000th meal at the Millhaven Grange Hall this week, making it the most successful relief effort in all of Wexamour.
  7. Old Ferris Down’s well, which the flood had swelled into a pond the whole row took to calling Ferris’s Lake, is a proper well once more, after the flood-relief volunteers spent the week re-cutting its banks and drains to carry the extra water off instead of letting it stand.
  8. Prewitt Hale is home from Grove Hospital and mending at his own kitchen table. The ward decided it had nothing to offer a serpent-folk farmer. He is on his feet, which we have lately learned to count as good news.
  9. Wenna and Tolley Harrow hatched a daughter on rest-day night. She came out very small with a protruding spine and ribs. She has had trouble moving her head, but the doctor said she should survive. The strip turned out before dawn with what mouse soup could be scraped together between us.
  10. And on the far corner of the Byre place, where nothing has grown since their fields died, one strip of ground came up green this week. We cannot tell you what it means, but it is green and the Byres are taking special care of it.

We hope this brings a bright spot to your day, and that you will continue to bring us your good news for the next one. We could always use more of it.
