Silverwolf High in the Faded Lands has closed following a mishap at Deepsong, the Song Society’s annual whale concert. As it does every year, the Society flooded the great tank on the auditorium stage and brought a blue whale up into it to sing. Late in the evening the whale gave the signature leap that soaks the front rows every year, but this time the tank could not hold it. The glass gave way, and the water came down across the stage and out into the hall, flooding the auditorium and the ground-floor corridors.
No one was injured. The audience was clear of the stage when the tank broke, and the whale was kept calm in the shallows of the flooded hall until it could be lifted out and returned to the ocean unharmed. School authorities have closed the building while the auditorium is drained and the stage assessed, and have asked families to keep clear of the lower floors until the water is out. The Song Society has not yet said whether Deepsong will return to the auditorium next year, or whether the great tank can be rebuilt at all.
