The Key to the City of Vaelthir was awarded Thursday to the smallest recipient in its history, the Office of Resource and Civil Management confirmed, in what officials are calling a first for the honour. The recipient is a flood-relief volunteer known as Luna, who accepted the key from atop a sandbag pile at the Millhaven Grange Hall.
Luna is credited with running the sandbag distribution and relief operation at the Grange Hall throughout the recent Fenwater flooding, which ORCM described as the most sustained of the wet season. Volunteers have credited her with organising the sandbag line, managing donated supplies, and holding morale through weeks of rain.
“We have given this key to coordinators and to captains,” an ORCM spokesperson told the Chronicle. “I do not believe we have ever given it to someone who directs an entire relief yard from the top of the sandbag pile. She earned it from up there.”
