The Office of Resource and Civil Management has completed the scheduled seven-day review of the water-safety advisory issued for Brindle Lake in the southern Rolling Downs and has determined that the advisory shall be extended until further notice. The office further advised that the affected area has been widened.

Previously, the office confirmed that incidents attributed to kelpies continued to be recorded during the review period. The office declined to provide a figure for the review period but stated that the cumulative total remained “subject to ongoing reconciliation.” An earlier advisory had recorded at least eleven persons injured and one deceased.

The office stated that the required minimum distance from the waterline has been increased from thirty feet to fifty, that the prohibition on entering the shallows and reed beds remains in force, and that the advisory has been extended to include the lower Brindle watercourse and two adjoining ponds not named in the original notice. Residents of the southern basin were asked to observe the revised boundaries and to report any sighting or incident to the ORCM waystation without delay.

An office spokesperson stated that the review had proceeded according to standard procedure and when asked whether the extension reflected a worsening of conditions, the spokesperson said the office “does not characterize conditions in advance of findings.” We also asked again whether the matter might be connected to other disturbances reported this season across the Downs and the Groves, the spokesperson repeated that the office “does not trade in that kind of talk” and directed further inquiries to the posted notices.
